The EU is improving its customs risk management with the rollout of Import Control System 2 (ICS-2), an update designed to boost safety and security for goods entering the EU. In this article, we will explore how ICS-2’s implementation will reshape EU import procedures.
ICS-2 is the evolved version of ICS-1, which ensures a more detailed and comprehensive exchange of information between Economic Operators (EOs) and customs authorities, simplifying cross-border clearance for legitimate trade. However, they will require more extensive and detailed information for declarations, particularly concerning specific cargo-related information such as seller or buyer information and customs codes. This will, in turn, allow EU customs authorities to better identify high-risk consignments and intervene at the most appropriate point in the supply chain, providing greater protection for EU citizens against security and safety threats.
Carriers must notify customs of their ICS-2 deployment window (typically in the country where their EORI is registered). This notification needs to be given to the custom office in the country of your EORI registration. Inherently, VertomCory can assist in filing this notification and ensure compliance with new procedures.
Under the ICS-2 framework, third parties may submit ‘sensitive data’ as part of the ‘master data’ structure. While VertomCory will handle the full master submission, an authorized party can input the ‘house data,’ enabling receivers to include market-sensitive information and specific buyer/seller details.
